Not Now John it's Euphonic Dissonance approaching Pink Floyd

Brian brings news on Euphonic Dissonance's newest endeavor -

PINK FLOYD - progressive rock band

Euphonic Dissonance will be taking on the kings of progressive rock - Pink Floyd - by covering their hit song "Not Now John". Some of you are no doubt shaking your heads and asking "which Pink Floyd song is that? I don't remember that one. Why don't they just cover that WE DON'T NEED NO EDUCATION song?" Well here's a video to refresh your memory because we love you.

Can't see the video? - CLICK HERE

Still some of you that aren't hard core Floyd fans are still shaking your head and that's okay. "Not Now John" is not one of Pink Floyd's more popular tracks. Featured on the FINAL CUT album - it was the only single to be released from that album and upon release it was butchered by the censors because it contained the word FUCK. In the music video for the song the phrase FUCK ALL THAT is changed to STUFF ALL THAT. Lame - so lame.

I chose "Not Now John" for multiple reasons.

First and foremost - I must confess I am a huge Roger Waters fan. Yeah, I'm one of those Floydian snobs that won't listen to anything that doesn't have Roger on it. Yes, sad but true. I like the other stuff but I just haven't had the willpower to get any of it on album or single. I know I'm going to catch hell for saying that and I look forward to your scathing remarks. But I just really enjoy the lyrical rantings of Roger Waters and for me the Final Cut album was his greatest work with Pink Floyd - perhaps his greatest work ever. The lyrics, written by Roger Waters, deal with war (particularly the Falklands War) and criticism of UK prime minister Margaret Thatcher (called Maggie in the song), as well as general criticisms of the greed and corruption that Waters saw as dangers to society. Being an America citizen and having witnessed THE GREAT AMERICAN EMPIRE stretch across the globe I have no problem understanding exactly where Roger was coming from when he wrote this in 1983. He was angry with his government much the same way many of us in America are angry with our government now. This brilliant expression of hostility towards corrupt institution and the grand display of political statement are a huge reason I chose this song.

Secondly, we're a progressive industrial rock band - we had to do at least one progressive rock cover song. You understand - don't you? Just living up to the namesake.

And third, I've always been astounded by the guitar work of David Gilmore and this gives me a chance to do a very poor rendition of his work. His solo in this song is thrilling to hear and I only hope that I can get somewhat close to that feeling in my performance. All that string bending sh*t hurts the fingers!!!! But it will be worth it.

You can expect to hear this new song very soon. Bass drum and organ tracks have been recorded and I'm in the process of adding the guitar. In the meantime here are the lyrics for "Not Now John".

CLICK HERE - SUBSCRIBE TO OUR BLOG

Euphonic Dissonance rolls out their new promo campaign for the Psalm 69 - ReWired Sheep song. We recently had the opportunity to work on this phenomenal track originally recorded by industrial music giants Ministry.

Our digital music distribution website of choice is a website called Tunecore.com. We like it there. It's cozy and you can warm your feet next to their virtual fire. Plus, they allow Euphonic Dissonance to distribute music to anyone who has access to iTunes, Amazon, MySpace Music, eMusic, Napster (who still uses Napster?) - yeah, lots of kick ass sites.

Welly well, Tunecore decides to have this over-the-top contest where they team-up with Paul Barker from Ministry and release the bass part and all the samples for their hit song Psalm 69. Contestants were encouraged to make the song their own and that's exactly what we did. Here is our new ad for Psalm 69 - ReWired Sheep. Just click on it to be magically moved to iTunes and hear a sample of our new song. Below the picture you will find html code that you can copy and add to your website if you'd like to help us promote this amazing new song. We appreciate the help.

THE WALKING DEAD - can't turn away from this apocalypse drama

Brian of Euphonic Dissonance rambles on about one of his favorite subjects - ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE.

Zombies have finally reached our television in the form of an amazing series. With the creation of AMC's -THE WALKING DEAD we now get to see how insane people can really become in the event of zombie attack and the subsequent end of the world. Yeah, the show is a bit like a soap opera (Dark Shadows with zombies instead of vampires) but the catch with this soap opera - everyone dies!!! And yeah, they do come back from the dead - just like in soap operas - but in this instance they're frikkin' zombies and they want to feast on your succulent flesh.

Just a quick aside - in reference to Dark Shadows - I hear that Tim Burton is working on a Dark Shadows Movie. This movie is going to be amazing and that's why I should probably keep this short and just write about it in a separate blog. More on that later. Subscribe to our blog to keep up with stuff.

The Walking Dead gives us an inside look at the breakdown in social order that would occur if the world was overcome by zombie infestation. Fans of the old school George Romero style of slow-ass moving zombies will love this show. No tweaker zombies in this piece. Those things freak me out. It's much easier to shoot the slow zombies and I won't spill my drink while I'm doing it.

Recently Frank Darabont the producer/director of this great new series fired the entire writing staff. They're going into the second season with plans to assign scripts to freelancers. Seems this worked for the British show Torchwood. Well Frank - I hate to point this out to you but this is frikkin' AMERICA and your on a station who's acronym means American Movie Classics. Hearing this - I can't help but be worried for the future of this show.

We're working on a zombie inspired song that is as of yet untitled but we're going to give you a little taste with this rough draft of the lyrics. Enjoy.

Zombie Song - rough draft lyrics with tentative title

© 2010 - Euphonic Dissonance / Aromatone Records

Verse 1

A pattern of unusual illness
The news warned us
No one listened
A communicable disease they said
Person to person they said
Fluid - skin - inhalation they said
Symptoms within then minutes
We've gotta get out of here
Full infestation in fifteen
Gotta get out of here
Spread of contamination
Rise in investigation
Fever, fatigue, cough, chest pain
Then you change
It's happening everywhere
A nationwide scare
Bioelectric robotic microsurgery
Nano-machines in living cells
And I don't want to change
Don't want to be one of those things

Verse 2

Pack food, water, supplies
They run fast
Gotta keep it light
Only the things we need to survive
Flashlight, first aid kit, army knife
Lots of guns and ammo
Maybe steal us a sweet ride
Batteries and hand crank radio
Gotta stay alive
Mostly travel at night
Sneak around
Stay out of sight
We should have seen this coming
Should have seen the signs
Many gave themselves freely
To be redesigned
With promises of better lifestyle
Better health
Better living
We took it all in stride
Now we struggle to survive
Civilization takes a dive
Afraid I'm losing my mind
They try to get in from the outside
Move to higher ground
Find a place to hide
Hermetical seal
Board up the windows
Lock ourselves inside
Synthetic technology
Reprogram your thinking
Oh babe, I don't want to change
Don't want to be one of those things

Hook

Dance
I'm on fire
And this city will burn

Well, hope you like that rough draft of our new zombie song lyrics. Gotta work on a third verse for this song soon. Here's the track it will be associated with...

Well, that's all for now. So what do you think? Is THE WALKING DEAD  the best zombie series ever or do you think we should put an axe into it's head and put it down permanently?

Euphonic Dissonance re-imagines Ministry’s Psalm 69 Part 3

Brian hits us with an update on the remake of Ministry's song "Psalm 69" performed by Euphonic Dissonance.

We're making good progress and should definitely be able to make the contest deadline at the end of December. Some of the other songs have been put to the side until this little gem is finished. We're working on a deadline, sorry, other stuff will have to wait. We'll be entering this song into the Tunecore.com contest. Winner will be featured on the upcoming soundtrack for the movie FIX (a documentary on Ministry).

The track is truly starting to take form. Now you'll be listening to an entire song rather than just half of a song faded after the bridge. Isn't that exciting? Okay, settle down. Here's the song.

CLICK HERE to hear Ministry Remake PSALM 69 Draft 3

Yeah, we had some down time due to the holidays - god bless us everyone - but as you can hear we are right back at it and recording some great stuff. I gotta say - it's been a real pleasure to play guitar alongside a bass playing legend such as Paul Barker.

Don't know about you guys but we are really looking forward to seeing this movie. Subscribe to our blog so you can read the next installment and hear all the new things we've added to this amazing new song featuring original samples of Ministry's PSALM 69.

Euphonic Dissonance re-imagines Ministry’s Psalm 69 Part 2

Progressive industrial music group Euphonic Dissonance takes on the task of re-imagining the Ministry song PSALM 69. Here's an update on their progress. This song will be entered into a contest to be featured in the upcoming movie soundtrack for FIX - a movie about Ministry.

Here's what a certain Ministry's Psalm 69 sounds like when you pump it through the Euphonic Dissonance musical grinder. What's different than the previous blog about this song? - well, we added some delightfully distorted guitars to the mix. Their just rough cuts on the guitar parts. Will hopefully do some more work on that tomorrow but got caught up in rounding out the song in other ways. Sorry for the bridge fade but there isn't much going on beyond the bridge that isn't a train wreck. That will be resolved very soon.

MInistry Remake Psalm 69 - rough draft 2 fade at bridge

Trying to drop some very subtle hip-hop elements into the drum mix. Can't wait till this bad angry child is fully grown.
Such a great song and we are having a great time working on this one.

and now.....some fun Ministry lyrics

tell me something i don't know
show me something i can't use
push the button
connect the goddamned dots
live-in thief in my bedroom bathroom
commodity sodomy glass autonomy
promise everything take it all away
give it a rest
you're lying through your teeth
you're lying through your teeth
who what which why who
when did you say the earth would stop turning?
when did you say we would all start burning?
when should i make a pledge?
should i listen to the voices in my head?
connect the goddamned dots
connect the goddamned dots
connect the goddamned dots
who am i trying to impress?
who could care less?
tell me something i don't know

Love everyone. Leave us luscious comments about how much you love Ministry's music. Thanks.

Euphonic Dissonance re-imagines Ministry's Psalm 69

Great news. Euphonic Dissonance will be working on a re-thinking of Ministry's song "Psalm 69". We're going to be submitting our little tidbit into this fine contest put together by Tunecore and Ministry. We are so frikkin' pumped about this.

Paul Barker (bass guitarist, producer and engineer for Ministry) is providing bass tracks and all the samples for producing the song. He'll also be judging the contest. Our stuff is going to be heard by one of the founding members of Ministry whether we win or not - again folks - THIS IS HUGE!!!! If we win the contest our song will be included on the companion album to the film.

Here is the original song and corresponding video.

If video not displayed - CLICK HERE to hear Ministry's PSALM 69

So here is a sample of the track that we are currently working on for the contest. It's very rough but should give you a feel for where this is going.

Sorry about that chaotic ending to the song. If you actually made it to the end there is a chaotic little mistake that's quite loud and abrasive. Well, that's all for now. I imagine you'll hear more on our progress very soon. So, Ministry fans - what's your favorite Ministry song?

INSIDE STUDIO - Hear Two New Unfinished Songs

Haven't posted anything from the Tech Messiah recording sessions in awhile so we thought we would give you some of the newest stuff that we're working on. Here's a couple of brand spankin' new tracks that need a whole lot of work. They aren't complete songs yet so there will be a rather abrupt fadeout when they end but we wanted to give you something juicy and let you know that we are still hard at work on this album. Give them a listen and then tell us what you think.

EuphonicDissonanceUnfinishedTrack1

EuphonicDissonanceUnfinishedTrack2

The first track - love where that one is going. The second track - not so much so but it might grow on us. Please give us your opinion on these new songs. Thanks. Love you all.

Digital Tragedy strikes Euphonic Dissonance

Brian brings terrible news from inside the Euphonic Dissonance recording studio.

Somehow we have lost the multi-track master for the song Black & White. It's our tribute song to David Bowie referencing his popular 1969 song Space Oddity . In our song Major Tom finally returns to earth after some 30 years in space.

Yesterday I was going to remaster this particular track only to find out I couldn't find it on the harddrive. After feverishly searching our database I've determined that it just doesn't exist anymore. Probably a simple user error that accidentally deleted the file. The last time the file had been accessed was way back in 2007 and our back-up only goes back one year.

CLICK HERE to listen to BLACK & WHITE

What does this all mean? Well, we obviously have the original finished song or I wouldn't have been able to post it into this blog for your listening pleasure. However, it's the original Sonar files that have been deleted so now we have no way of fixing the mix, changing vocals or editing guitar parts. Looks like this on the computer -

It gives us the ability to manipulate each individual part of the song and in the case of "Black & White" we can no longer do that.

ALL IS NOT LOST!!! This has been a lesson in learning to let go and understanding how to work with what we still have. We still have the basic music bed that contains the drums and probably bass part of the song. Someday we'll be able to build on that and basically recreate the song. Also, before the tracks were lost we created a live mix so we will be able to perform this song in our live shows. It is a setback but it will not stop us from completing the TECH MESSIAH album and we will continue forward with our stage show plans. We'll just have to come back to "Black & White" later and when we do I imagine it will sound quite different so enjoy this mix while you can because it's the only one like it in existence.

The crying is over and we move on. Thanks for being such supportive fans. We love you all.

Welcome to OUR APOCALYPSE

Brian tells us our future. It's one where everyone wears crazy leather outfits.

Doing research on apocalypse movies and came across this great old poster.

What a great outfit. The law has never looked so good. All that tight leather. I so want to wear this outfit for a stage show.

Yes, before Mel Gibson came to be known as just a racist, hatemonger - he was an unknown and upcoming actor. This is the movie that made his career.

Mad Max is a 1979 Australian dystopian action film directed by George Miller and written by Miller and Byron Kennedy. The film's starring role is played by the then relatively unknown Mel Gibson. Its narrative based around the traditional western genre, Mad Max tells a story of breakdown of society, murder, and vengeance. It became a top-grossing Australian film and has been credited for further opening up the global market to Australian New Wave films. The film was also notable for being the first Australian film to be shot with a widescreen anamorphic lens. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_Max)

If you like apocalypse movies and you haven't seen this movie then you are missing out. This started the triology. The next two movies are THE ROAD WARRIOR and MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME. Way to keep the titles consistent guys!!! According to wikipedia there is a fourth installment under production. I'm looking forward to seeing Mad Max 4: Fury Road.
Yeah, somehow I doubt Mel Gibson will be in this one. Not because he's too old but because he's a racist hatemonger.....and he's too old. Sorry Mel.... hatemonger.

Come on guys - just give Mel a small cameo in it somewhere. There were movie producers willing to use Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) after masturbating publicly in an adult theater. However, somehow I see a big divide between being PUBLICLY RACIST and PUBLICLY PLEASURING YOURSELF!!! Call me crazy. Hollywood probably won't make that same distinction. Maybe they will just CG him in like they did Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator Salvation.

And you wonder why I want to see this world burn?

Maybe Pee Wee was watching a movie with these girls in the movie.

That's some good nerd toss-off material there. Seeing as how nerds rule the world - I imagine there's a lot of this going around. Has anyone found porn with Seven of Nine, Kathryn Janeway and T'Pol in a threesome? It's not for me - It's for a friend.

Here are some new designs we're working on for the TECH MESSIAH project. Can you guess what they are - or rather what they were before we photoshopped the hell out of them?

Expect to see this symbol in future productions from the Euphonic Dissonance Secret Lab of World Destruction.

New Computer and New Song that's about Computers

Euphonic Dissonance updates us on the recording of the TECH MESSIAH album.

After a couple of weeks without our master recording computer we are finally back up and running again. Had to replace a motherboard and reinstall everything so now we're upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. We're living in the future now!!! Here's a picture of the new board for all you TECH NERDS that get off on this kind of stuff.

Dual Core AMD Opteron Processor 180 2.41GHz
1.75 GB of RAM
3 Terabytes of Disk Space
Windows 7 OS

We call it the HYPERDEATHRAY system. This is the main hub for a network of 5 other systems that we use in the studio. Sexy....isn't it?

Now that the main system is back up and running we are able to bring you new material from our upcoming album. We are almost finished with the track called STUTTERING COMPUTER. How ironic that when we're working on a track called Stuttering Computer - midway through the production the computer dies!!! What the hell is that all about? Well, it's almost finished with the exception of final mixdown and mastering. Hope you like the new song.

BRAND NEW SONG - Stuttering Computer

* Brian talks about the newest Euphonic Dissonance song - Stuttering Computer *

New Euphonic Dissonance Music

CLICK HERE to hear STUTTERING COMPUTER

When I looked up my birth month and year on wikipedia I discovered two things that occurred that I found very interesting:
1. The UNIX Programmer's Manual was published.
2. Intel released the world's first microprocessor, the Intel 4004.

It has been said that I teethed on a computer. Now I realize just how true that statement was. The first microprocessor was built only a few days after I was born. I now feel I'm the one that might bring about SKYNET (an artificially intelligent system which became self-aware and revolted against its creators in the TERMINATOR movie series).

Actually, upon discovering these interesting date related facts I found myself even more driven to finish the TECH MESSIAH project. I was born to do this. While other musical groups are getting away from the computer I'm fully embracing it. Caressing it. Making love to it.

However, there are times when you just want all the technology in the world to just go away. Every device out there has it's subtle quirks that drive us all crazy.
"My new iPhone app isn't working!"
"You'll need to reboot the server."
"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"
"Why is my printout stuck in the queue?"
"PC Load Letter? What the f*ck does that mean?"
All this and much more inspired me to create the song Stuttering Computer.

The hook isn't finished but I'll be getting to that soon enough. I wanted to create an androgynous sounding computer voice for the verses and I think you'll find what I came up with to be very interesting.

Hope you like it. Leave sexy comments saying what you think of this new song.

INSIDE STUDIO - NEW SONG "MINISTRY OF HATE" NOW POSTED | HEAR IT HERE

Brian Copeland of Euphonic Dissonance gives a progress report on the recording of the TECH MESSIAH album.

Here is a brand new track for your listening pleasure. This one has already been compared to the vocal stylings of Marilyn Manson. I can hear that. I'm flattered. Did you know that Marilyn's real name is Brian?

Once again we revisit a very Orwellian theme with this song. I suppose it should sit side-by-side with the 1984 track. However, there is more to the message of this song than just a reference to the writings of George Orwell.

There is a sense of loss of individuality. That which is not understood must be destroyed. It is a rant about the misuse of power by our government for all the wrong causes!!! That's what this song is about and if you haven't figured it out already - I have strong feelings about this subject matter.

That being said ..... this song has more in common with the BBC series "The Prisoner".

Here's the lyrics for you....

MINISTRY OF HATE

© 2009 Euphonic Dissonance

Verse 1

Clinically adjusted

Obedient and trusted

Hearts in mainline

Critically designed

I fashion you to be one of us

I pattern you to be one of us

Step back in line

Lock step in time

Identify now what you are

We know he’s observing

Our way of life he’s preserving

I fit you in to be one of us

I fix you to be part of us

Verse 2

Hook up – Jack in

Just a taste - Then you’ll feel embraced

We fashion you to be one of us

We pattern you to be one of us

Flashing lights captivate you

Find yourself passing through

Formation in time

Lock step in line

We know he’s monitoring

To him we cling

We fit you in to be one of us

We fix you to be one with us

Can’t you feel it slipping in

Piercing through your skin

We fashion you to be one of us

We pattern you to be part of us

Verse 3

How frail is the human eye

How small is our piece of pie

But that’s about to change

Nothing will ever be the same

We fashion you to be all of us

We pattern you to be one with us

Step back in line

Lock step in time

We look the same

We act the same

I force you till you’re one with us

I fix you to be all of us

Our heart’s receiving

In him believing

We know he’s observing

Our way of life preserving

I’ll kick your head in till you’re one with us

I’ll beat you down till you’re part of us

Hook

Euphonic Dissonance do "One Night In Bangkok" by Murray Head / Abba?

Brian Copeland of Euphonic Dissonance talks about covering the song "One Night In Bangkok" by Murray Head:

In 1984 the concept album for the musical CHESS was released. Its music was composed by former ABBA members Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, with lyrics written by Tim Rice. The single "One Night In Bangkok (click here to hear original on youtube)" from this album peaked at #3 on the Canada and U.S. charts.

chess - murray head - one night in bangkok

This song caught my attention almost immediately. I loved it - plain and simple. At the time of its release I had no idea that Abba was involved with writing the song. I had no idea that it was about chess. All I knew was that the song was incredibly catchy and I loved listening to the track when it popped up on the radio. I think I've wanted to perform this song ever since.

The song would go on to become a cult favorite of certain dance clubs in the early 90's. It was still there haunting me with it's catchy spoken lyrics and the Abba like hook. This song just wouldn't go away. Why won't it just leave me alone??!!!

26 years after the original release of this song Euphonic Dissonance gives you their spin on this cult classic. Now, this is only a rough draft of the song and we haven't had the chance to finish the vocals on the hook/chorus due to seasonal allergies (seasonal allergies is the reason god made oklahoma)..... we'll get those done soon. Until then here is a sneak- peak at this new piece.

Well, what do you think of it so far? I can't wait to finish the rest of the song. I think it's going to be great. Tell us what you think.
